Mounjaro (tirzepatide) which is also known as Zepbound in US is a weekly self-injection approved in many countries including the UK for weight loss and weight maintenance in adults.
Mounjaro primarily works by regulating your appetite, giving you a sense of satiety (‘fullness’), making you feel less hungry and experience less food cravings. This will help you eat less food and reduce your body weight.

Mounjaro & Wegovy approximate dose equivalencies in terms of weight-management potency*:
- Mounjaro 2.5 mg** → Wegovy ~0.25 mg – 0.5 mg**
- Mounjaro 5 mg → Wegovy ~ 1.7 mg or 2.4 mg
- Mounjaro 7.5 mg → Wegovy ~ 2.4 mg
- Mounjaro 10 mg, 12.5 mg & 15 mg → No Wegovy equivalent currently (higher potency) – Wegovy 7.2 mg (similar to Mounjaro 10 mg to 15 mg) is expected to be available in the UK, around Oct to Dec 2025, subject to licensing authorisation.

Wegovy (semaglutide) is a weekly self-injection approved in many countries including the UK for weight loss and weight maintenance in adults.
It is similar to a natural hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that is released from the intestine after a meal. Wegovy works by acting on receptors in the brain that control your appetite, causing you to feel fuller and less hungry and experience less craving for food. This will help you eat less food and reduce your body weight.
What’s the difference between Wegovy and Ozempic?
Put simply, not much. Wegovy and Ozempic are the same medicine (i.e. semglutide), sold under different brand names. The difference is that Ozempic is approved for Type 2 Diabetes, whereas Wegovy is approved for weight loss management. Wegovy is also available in higher doses.

In addition, Wegovy is the first obesity treatment authorised to prevent life-threatening cardiovascular events (e.g. heart attach and stroke).
Wegovy has a well-studied safety profile.
